Top Ten Things to Do in Prince William County Virginia:
#4 -- National Museum of the Marine Corps

If you’re looking for legend, learning and lore…you can see it from Interstate 95 – the soaring design of the National Museum of the Marine Corps near Quantico, Virginia, echoing the flag-raisers of Iwo Jima. Take the exit to explore a lasting tribute to the past, present and future of the U.S. Marines, and you’ll see why this 135-acre site, with world-class interactive exhibits, has fast become a top attraction in Prince William County. No admission, and parking is free.

An indoor legacy walk takes visitors from the Halls of Montezuma (1775-1865) to Global Readiness and the Gulf War (2000-present).

Among the tanks, aircraft, landing craft, weapons, uniforms, art and photo exhibits, there are several standouts. One is the presentation baton given to John Philip Sousa on his departure as director of the Marine Corps Band. Another, the Academy Award given to the Marine Corps for the WWII documentary, “Tarawa.” Also, most significantly, you can view the second American flag raised over Iwo Jima’s Mount Suribachi.
